Full-Time Chaplain – Slidell Memorial

About the role

The Chaplain provides spiritual care to patients, families, staff and visitors at Slidell Memorial Hospital. This full‑time position supports patients throughout their stay, especially during crises, end‑of‑life moments and after death.

Key responsibilities

• Offer presence, comfort and spiritual support on assigned units and during emergent calls, including crisis and death situations.
• Coordinate and lead interfaith rituals and services as requested by hospital leadership.
• Assist families and staff with decedent care administrative tasks following patient deaths.
• Maintain collaborative relationships with the interdisciplinary team and mentor new spiritual‑care staff or CPE students.

Required profile

• Master’s in Divinity or equivalent certification recognized by a board‑certifying entity.
• Four units of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) from ACPE or ICPT.
• At least one year of experience delivering interfaith, culturally competent spiritual care in a healthcare setting.
• Ordination, commission or ecclesiastical endorsement as required by the certifying board.

Required skills

• Knowledge of diverse philosophical systems, religions and ethical dialogue.
• Working knowledge of psychological and sociological disciplines.
• Computer proficiency for data entry and retrieval, including Windows‑style applications.
• Effective verbal and written communication for presenting information to varied audiences.
