About the role
The Fire and Life Safety Equipment Specialist I supports Texas A&M University by inspecting, testing, and maintaining fire safety systems across campus. Working under general supervision, you will ensure that fire extinguishers, hydrants, and related equipment meet regulatory standards and are ready for emergencies.
Key responsibilities
- Perform routine inspections of fire extinguishers, fire hydrants, and other life‑safety equipment.
- Schedule and document flow tests for campus fire hydrants, updating databases with current data.
- Conduct hydrostatic testing of portable fire extinguishers and maintain accurate records.
- Inventory new fire‑safety devices, bar‑code installations, and manage related databases.
- Assist construction teams with fire‑safety data for new projects and renovations.
- Support special events and emergency response teams with fire‑safety expertise.
Required profile
- Associate degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- At least two years of experience in fire‑life safety or a related field.
- DOT security training (or ability to complete within 60 days) and a Texas driver’s license (or ability to obtain).
- Ability to lift, carry, and climb ladders while handling moderate to heavy objects.
Required skills
- Operation of hydrostatic testing equipment for fire extinguishers.
- Use of fire‑hydrant flow test equipment.
- Proficiency with hand tools and basic computer applications for data entry.
