Finance and Budget Officer

About the role

The Finance and Budget Officer will support the One Executive Office at United Nations Headquarters, delivering financial analysis, budget preparation and administration for Trust Funds and programme activities across multiple UN entities.

Key responsibilities

• Review and analyse data to finalize cost estimates and budget proposals for staff and non‑staff requirements of Trust Funds and ad‑hoc programmes.
• Assist managers in developing resource requirements for budget submissions and project proposals.
• Provide input on programme budget implications for Security Council statements and support intergovernmental bodies during budget reviews.
• Issue budget allotments, redeploy funds when necessary, and monitor implementation to ensure expenditures stay within authorized limits.
• Review requisitions for goods and services to confirm correct charging and fund availability.
• Administer extra‑budgetary resources, reviewing agreements and cost plans for compliance with regulations and policies.
• Prepare and review financial reports to donors on fund usage.
• Compile documentation for budget performance submissions and analyse variances between approved budgets and actual expenditures.

Required profile

• Experience in budget preparation and financial management within an international or multilateral environment.
