Faculty Position in AI Policy and Governance

About the role

Northeastern University’s College of Social Sciences and Humanities seeks an open‑rank, tenure‑track faculty member in Artificial Intelligence Policy, Regulation, and Governance. The appointment will be based in the Department of Political Science or the School of Public Policy and Urban Affairs, with possible joint affiliation with the School of Law.

Key responsibilities

• Teach foundational and advanced courses on AI governance, comparative politics, international relations, and AI policy and law.
• Develop and contribute to joint curriculum and research initiatives across the College of Social Sciences and Humanities and the School of Law.
• Conduct research on the design, use, and societal impact of human‑centered AI systems in regional and global contexts.

Required profile

• JD and/or Ph.D. in Political Science, Public Policy, Economics, or a related field by the start date.
• Strong scholarly record on AI policy and impact, with a commitment to undergraduate teaching excellence.
• For Associate level: current rank of Associate Professor or at least 5 years of relevant experience; for Full Professor level: current rank of Full Professor or at least 8 years of relevant experience.

• Expertise in AI policy, regulation, and governance.
• Ability to teach and mentor a diverse, global student population.
