Exterior Electrician I/II (Sign-on Bonus $7,500)

About the role

The Airport Authority is hiring qualified candidates for an Exterior Electrician position at Dulles International Airport. Depending on experience, the role will be placed at Exterior Electrician I (T19) or Exterior Electrician II (T20) with a $7,500 sign‑on bonus.

Key responsibilities

• Install, test, maintain, troubleshoot, repair and modify medium‑voltage (4.16 kV‑34.5 kV) and low‑voltage electrical distribution systems, including airfield lighting, parking‑lot lighting, navigational aids, traffic signals, standby generators and programmable control systems.
• Perform preventive maintenance on exterior lighting, generators, battery banks, and related control equipment; respond to outages and emergency service calls.
• Read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, one‑line diagrams, relay drawings and technical manuals; conduct switching activities following lockout/tagout procedures and applicable safety standards.

Required profile

• Four years of progressively responsible experience maintaining and repairing electrical equipment and systems.
• Knowledge of electrical theories, codes (NEC, NFPA 70E), FAA standards and airport safety procedures.
• Ability to work safely in the Airport Operations Area and communicate effectively in English.

Required skills

• Medium‑voltage electrical distribution and switching procedures.
• Airfield lighting systems maintenance and troubleshooting.
• Use of electrical testing instruments, relay testers, cable locating equipment, aerial lift trucks, bucket trucks and scissor lifts.
• Interpretation of blueprints, schematics and technical manuals.
