Executive Underwriter / AVP Underwriting Director – Construction Casualty

About the role

Zurich is seeking an Executive Underwriter or AVP, Underwriting Director – Construction Casualty to join the team in Boston, MA or New York, NY. The role is hybrid, with three days per week in the office/market and flexibility to support customers, brokers and agents.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as a customer industry advocate, improving experience by understanding risk and offering end‑to‑end insurance solutions.
• Evaluate exposure, assess risk, and price complex new and renewal accounts across Auto, General Liability, and Workers’ Compensation.
• Use risk insights, data and models to drive informed decisions at point of sale.
• Administer underwriting rules, guidelines, insurance laws, regulations and rating manual rules while working within broad limits on complex assignments.

Required profile

• High School Diploma or equivalent with relevant experience (5‑10 years in underwriting/claims or Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with associate degree).
• Experience in underwriting, market‑facing roles, or related fields such as banking, mortgage, finance, or construction.
• Ability to work in a team‑based environment and effectively assess risk.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
