Exceptional Children Teacher (EC)

About the role

The Roger Bacon Academy seeks a dedicated Exceptional Children Teacher to provide special education services to students with disabilities, develop and implement Individual Education Plans, and support their academic, behavioral, and social growth.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and deliver instructional plans aligned with school curriculum and each student’s IEP.
• Create, implement, and update Individual Education Plans based on assessments.
• Provide direct special‑education instruction and adapt materials to meet diverse needs.
• Monitor student behavior, maintain classroom discipline, and de‑escalate situations as needed.
• Assist students with personal care tasks such as eating and toileting.
• Communicate progress to parents through written reports and act as case manager coordinating with caregivers and support staff.
• Maintain accurate student records in compliance with state and federal regulations.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in education and a valid North Carolina teaching certificate in the relevant area.
• Ability to operate classroom technology and equipment, lift up to 20 lb, and perform light physical tasks.
• Strong interpersonal communication skills for interaction with students, parents, and colleagues.
• Capacity to work under stress, handle emergencies, and ensure student safety.
