Exceptional Children Teacher Assistant

About the role

The Exceptional Children Teacher Assistant supports classroom teachers of students with disabilities at Classical Charter Schools of Leland. Working under general supervision, the assistant helps deliver quality instruction, maintain safety, and promote student independence.

Key responsibilities

• Assist teachers with academic tasks, small‑group activities, and behavior management.
• Perform clerical duties, maintain records, grade papers, and prepare instructional materials.
• Monitor student safety, well‑being, and self‑esteem; provide one‑on‑one support as needed.
• Help with classroom housekeeping, equipment maintenance, and supply ordering.
• Participate in crisis intervention, restraining students when necessary, and complete incident reports.

Required profile

• Associate’s degree in any field; education or early childhood development preferred.
• Ability to lift/carry 20 lb, perform basic housekeeping, and operate common office equipment.
• Strong organizational skills, ability to follow oral and written directions, and maintain confidential records.
• Effective interpersonal skills to work with teachers, students, and staff.
