Excavator Operator – Utility Crew

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Excavator Operator to join our Utility Crew. You will operate heavy equipment to dig trenches and support the installation of water, sewer, storm drainage and other underground utilities, ensuring safety and precision on each project.

Key responsibilities

• Operate excavators safely to dig trenches to required depth, grade and alignment.
• Interpret grade stakes, blueprints and site plans to achieve accurate excavations.
• Perform daily equipment inspections, safety walk‑arounds and preventative maintenance.
• Assist with material handling, shoring system assembly, backfilling and other manual labor tasks.
• Comply with company policies, safety procedures and regulatory requirements.
• Complete paperwork, reporting and documentation related to equipment usage and project progress.
• Work flexible hours, including overtime, weekends and travel to various sites.

Required profile

• Minimum 3 years of excavator operation experience on utility crews.
• Valid driver’s license (CDL preferred but not required).
• Ability to lift 50+ lb, climb in/out of equipment, and work in standing, kneeling or crouched positions.
• Willingness to undergo pre‑employment drug screening.
• Reliable transportation and ability to commute or relocate to Indiana project sites.
