Environmental Compliance Specialist (Cartersville)

About the role

Join the State of Georgia’s Environmental Protection Division in Cartersville as an Environmental Compliance Specialist. Under supervision, you will learn to evaluate programs for compliance with environmental laws, rules, and regulations and recommend monitoring and corrective actions. This role supports solid waste and construction stormwater facilities across the Mountain District.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct routine, follow‑up, and complaint inspections of assigned solid waste facilities.
• Inspect construction stormwater facilities and ensure regulatory compliance.
• Receive, investigate, and document environmental complaints.
• Initiate and prepare enforcement documents and conduct enforcement conferences.
• Complete monthly compliance reports for assigned facilities.
• Maintain databases of all permitted facilities and related documentation.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Geology, Engineering or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
• Relevant professional experience in environmental protection (ranging from 0‑1 years for entry level to 3 years for senior level, or prior experience at a lower specialist level).
