Entry-Level Thermal Design Engineer

About the role

Cornelis Networks is seeking an entry‑level Thermal Design Engineer to support the design, simulation, and testing of thermal management solutions for next‑generation fabric platforms. You will work closely with senior thermal, mechanical, and electrical engineers to address cooling challenges from component to system level.

Key responsibilities

• Set up and execute thermal measurements and qualification testing, using thermocouples and data acquisition systems.
• Assist senior engineers with CFD and thermal simulations, including model preparation, pre‑ and post‑processing, and analysis.
• Support thermal design of PCBs, heat sinks, and thermal interface materials.
• Analyze test data, summarize findings, and contribute to engineering test reports.
• Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and manufacturing teams to ensure design constraints are met and products are ready for production.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering with focus on thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid dynamics, or thermal engineering.
• 0‑3 years of thermal engineering experience (internship, co‑op, or academic lab work).
• Hands‑on lab experience with thermal sensors, data acquisition, and test execution.
• Familiarity with 3D MCAD tools (CREO preferred, SolidWorks acceptable).
• Basic knowledge of CFD tools and concepts (experience with Cadence Celsius EC, Siemens Flotherm, or Ansys Icepak is a plus).
• Understanding of basic cooling methods such as conduction, convection, heat sinks, and thermal interface materials.
• Strong communication skills and eagerness to learn in a cross‑disciplinary environment.

Required skills

• Thermal measurement equipment (thermocouples, DAQ systems).
• Computational fluid dynamics tools (Cadence Celsius EC, Siemens Flotherm, Ansys Icepak).
• 3D mechanical CAD software (CREO, SolidWorks).
• Scripting for test automation or data analysis (Python, MATLAB).
