About the role
Conducts trade‑specific inspections on elevators, escalators, mechanized walkways and other lift machinery, ensuring that construction, retrofit or repair work complies with applicable codes, drawings, specifications and contract documents.
Key responsibilities
- Performs code and quality‑control inspections on various phases of elevator and lift equipment.
- Detects defects or faults in installations, maintenance or operation and recommends remedial measures per jurisdictional requirements.
- Reads and interprets equipment operation and installation plans and instructions.
- Uses standard testing devices and methods to verify equipment meets established requirements.
- Applies state, local and national code requirements consistently.
- Coordinates work schedules with service companies/technicians to maximize efficiency.
- Works cooperatively with property managers, service companies and the public while adhering to safety practices.
Required profile
- Current Qualified Elevator Inspector (QEI) certification or at least five years of elevator industry experience; engineering education may substitute for two years of experience.
- Knowledge of installation, repair and maintenance of electric and hydraulic elevators, escalators and moving walks.
- Understanding of mechanical and electrical principles as applied to elevator controls.
- Familiarity with the American National Standard Safety Code for Elevators, Dumbwaiters, Escalators and Moving Walks and related jurisdictional requirements.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematic drawings, layouts and code documents.
Required skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel.
- Experience using Microsoft Access.
