About the role

The Center for Research Innovation at Northeastern University seeks a dynamic Director of Technology Ventures to lead the development and acceleration of its spinout portfolio, overseeing both hands‑on venture building and scalable program design.

Key responsibilities

• Lead venture development across a portfolio of life‑science and physical‑science spinouts, guiding teams from formation through launch and early growth.
• Design and operate scalable programs—including training, grant writing support, pitch coaching, and investor‑connection initiatives—to serve roughly 50 spinouts at various stages.
• Build and maintain a pipeline of future spinouts by collaborating with faculty and commercialization teams to identify high‑potential research disclosures.
• Develop and manage investor‑relationship strategies, organizing investor days, curated introductions, and stage‑based funding pathways.

Required profile

• Advanced degree in a STEM field (life sciences, physical sciences, or engineering preferred).
• 8–10 years of experience in venture development, technology commercialization, or related entrepreneurship roles.
• Proven ability to coach academic founders, evaluate market opportunities, and design repeatable venture creation processes.
• Strong relationship‑management skills with faculty, investors, and industry partners.

Required skills

• STEM background with deep understanding of science‑based startup life cycles.
• Extensive experience in venture building, including product‑market fit testing, go‑to‑market strategy, and fundraising support.
