Director of Principal Giving – Eastern US

About the role

The International Rescue Committee is seeking a senior fundraising leader to head its Principal Giving program across the Eastern United States. This director will shape strategy, guide a team of fundraisers, and secure multi‑year, high‑value commitments from ultra‑high‑net‑worth individuals.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute a comprehensive principal‑giving strategy aligned with bold revenue targets.
• Lead, mentor, and manage a team of officers responsible for cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding donors with capacity of $2.5M and above.
• Oversee personal donor portfolio, targeting gifts of $1M+ and building a robust pipeline of prospective major donors.
• Collaborate with the Senior Director, senior leadership, and the Board to identify partnership opportunities and ensure alignment with organizational priorities.
• Track performance metrics, report progress, and adjust tactics to meet or exceed fundraising goals.

Required profile

• Proven track record of closing 7‑ and 8‑figure gifts from high‑net‑worth individuals.
• Entrepreneurial mindset with strong leadership and team‑building experience.
• Deep understanding of major‑gift fundraising within the nonprofit sector.
• Excellent relationship‑building and communication skills with senior donors and stakeholders.
