Director, Commercial Lines Actuarial – Hybrid

About the role

The Director, Commercial Lines Actuarial leads pricing strategy and actuarial analysis for MAPFRE’s Commercial Auto, Businessowners Policy, and Commercial Package Policy lines. Reporting to senior management, this role translates portfolio performance and market conditions into actionable pricing recommendations.

Key responsibilities

• Lead pricing strategy and actuarial analysis for Commercial Auto, BOP, and CPP, evaluating loss trends, expenses, investment income, and reinsurance.
• Own line‑of‑business profitability, growth planning, rate adequacy, competitive positioning, segmentation, and rate‑impact analysis.
• Develop and prioritize rate review and filing schedules, ensuring accurate, well‑documented analyses are delivered on time.
• Communicate recommendations, assumptions, risks, and financial impacts to senior management and external stakeholders.
• Lead, develop, and manage two actuarial analysts, setting priorities, reviewing work, and supporting professional development.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, economics, or related quantitative field.
• 10+ years of property and casualty actuarial experience, with commercial lines pricing expertise.
• Demonstrated ability to lead analyses, communicate with senior stakeholders, and manage multiple priorities.
• Strong knowledge of insurance operations, accounting, regulation, reinsurance, and actuarial standards.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
• Analytical tools such as SQL, SAS, or R.
• Experience with pricing/modeling platforms like Earnix or Emblem.
