Dietary Assistant – Per Diem, Variable Shifts

About the role

The Dietary Assistant provides quality food service to patients in accordance with state and federal regulations, meeting individual nutritional needs. This is a per‑diem position with variable shifts, including weekends and holidays, at Lehigh Valley Hospital‑Hazleton.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare supplies and set up the tray‑line area before each meal.
• Deliver food promptly while maintaining safe food handling and sanitation standards.
• Engage with patients professionally, listen to concerns, and take meal orders.
• Print meal receipts, count meals, and submit records to the cook.
• Collaborate with Registered Dietitians to anticipate patient dietary needs.

Required profile

• Minimum 1 year of experience in the food service industry.
• Ability to read and interpret diet order cards and follow union policies.
• Physical ability to lift over 50 lb, push/pull up to 140 lb, and perform frequent standing, walking, squatting, and reaching.

Required skills

• Proficiency with computers and electronic devices for timekeeping and documentation.
• Knowledge of food service methods, sanitation principles, and safe food handling procedures.
