DC Transportation Manager

About the role

The DC Transportation Manager manages outbound deliveries to stores within the service region, ensuring on-time deliveries and budgets are met. The role covers yard operations, the back-haul program and leadership of the transportation team. It reports to the DC General Manager I/II and has six direct reports.

Key responsibilities

• Manage carrier relationships and planning so deliveries are on time and cube utilization is maximized; manage inbound deliveries for on-time, on-cycle and lead-time performance and availability of products for stores; manage outbound to minimize expedites and communicate daily with carriers.
• Manage transportation costs (cost per truckload, cube per truckload, cost per mile), support financial goals, use assets to reduce freight costs, audit carrier invoices regularly and review the general ledger for transportation charges.
• Drive customer service by developing and managing the customer service team and handling store concerns from phone calls and Infodock.
• Develop and report financial and operations metrics.
• Maintain yard integrity, dock, security, yard switchers and pallet recycling.

Required profile

• Able to work a flexible schedule, on-call at various times, weekends and holidays, and open to relocation.
• Must be 18 or older and legally permitted to work in the United States.
• Physical requirements include intermittent periods of continuous exertion such as walking, standing, stooping, climbing and lifting material or equipment, some heavy or awkward.
• Working conditions involve regular exposure to temperature extremes, moving machinery, loud noise and fumes.

Preferred qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Operations Management, Business or Supply Chain.
• Extensive transportation background including TMS intelligence, routing, P&L and budgeting.
• Previous change management experience.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel.

Pay range for California, Colorado, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Nevada, New York City, Ithaca (NY), Westchester County (NY) and Washington residents: $90,000 - $100,000.
