Data Scientist

About the role

The Home Depot is hiring a Data Scientist to support data science initiatives that drive business profitability, greater efficiencies and a better customer experience. The role applies advanced analytical methods to large datasets to extract business insights and solve problems, and documents developed code in a library of reusable algorithms. Depending on the team, knowledge of one or more specializations such as optimization, computer vision, recommendation, search or NLP is needed. The position typically reports to a manager or above and has no direct reports.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop algorithms and models on large datasets to create business insights, and act as technical lead on analytics projects while leading smaller ones independently
• Communicate insights and recommendations clearly to technical and non-technical leaders and partners, presenting them confidently and preparing reports and presentations
• Work with business partners and cross-functional teams to define project goals and build trust
• Keep up with data science developments and build a documented library of reusable algorithms

Required profile

• Age 18 or older and legally permitted to work in the United States
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a field related to the job
• Preferred: master's degree in a quantitative field (Computer Science, Math, Statistics) or equivalent experience
• Preferred: 4+ years in business intelligence and analytics, and 3 years of work experience

Required skills

• Preferred: modern scripting language (Python), query languages (Google BigQuery or SQL) and data visualization tools (Tableau)
• Preferred: statistical techniques, predictive modeling, data mining and data analysis
• Preferred: prescriptive modeling such as optimization, computer vision, recommendation, search or NLP
