About the role
The Southeast Region Headboat Survey (SRHS) at A.I.S., Inc. seeks a Data Analyst to provide administrative and analytical support for fishery‑dependent data. The role involves managing databases, ensuring data quality, and producing analytical summaries for reporting and scientific projects.
Key responsibilities
- Manage, organize and maintain SRHS and NMFS databases, ensuring data quality and correcting errors.
- Perform QA/QC checks on otolith and spine collections in the Oracle system and generate error reports for port agents.
- Compile dockside sampling data from headboat port agents across the South Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico.
- Develop and maintain QA/QC procedures for Headboat Survey data.
- Track vessel directory, contact information and reporting compliance.
- Use SAS and/or R, Oracle and relational databases to summarize landings, effort estimates and conduct compliance monitoring.
- Support data requests, scientific inquiries and SEDAR stock assessment activities through data analysis.
- Assist in preparing the annual report summarizing survey data, landings, effort and fishery impacts.
- Participate in multidisciplinary projects, write scientific proposals and contribute to outreach events and scientific meetings.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s degree with at least three years of relevant experience.
- Knowledge of fishery data management and analysis concepts.
- Proficiency in advanced database software and statistical analysis.
- Ability to summarize data and present results in reports or presentations.
