Custodian 1 or 2 – Residential Life Facilities

About the role

The Custodian crew supports LSU Residential Life by maintaining over 1.9 million square feet of residence halls and apartments. The role involves frequent interaction with students, staff, and the public while ensuring clean and safe living environments.

Key responsibilities

• Clean lobbies, bathrooms, hallways and assigned areas by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, dusting and polishing.
• Empty trash and recycling, handle bio‑hazardous waste, and decontaminate containers.
• Strip, wax, and polish floors using industrial mops and commercial floor machines.
• Operate wet/dry vacuums, carpet extractors, flood pumps and other equipment for water damage cleanup.
• Wash building exteriors, windows, walls, fixtures, steps and sidewalks with power washers and commercial cleaning tools.
• Unlock/lock campus buildings, manage keys, and set up furniture for special events.

Required profile

• Custodian 1: No prior experience required.
• Custodian 2: Minimum six months of custodial, housekeeping, grounds‑keeping or food‑service experience.
• Physical ability to walk, climb stairs, stand for long periods, stoop, kneel, and lift 20‑40 lb items.

Required skills

• Mixing and diluting cleaning solutions.
• Operating commercial floor machines, wet/dry vacuums, carpet extractors, and power washers.
• Handling hazardous materials and bio‑hazardous waste safely.
