Construction Inspector – Building General

About the role

The Construction Inspector – Building/General conducts on‑site inspections and monitors construction activities for major projects of the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (MWAA) at Dulles International Airport and Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport. The role ensures compliance with work plans, contract specifications, building codes and safety regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Inspect general building components, structures, materials and workmanship for compliance with plans, specifications and safety standards.
• Monitor contractor progress, verify milestones, review payment requests and ensure work aligns with contract requirements.
• Prepare daily construction reports, deficiency lists, punch‑list tracking and other written documentation.
• Assist the Contracting Officer’s Technical Representative (COTR) with change orders, claims, utility outage coordination and project schedule monitoring.
• Collaborate with engineers, architects, consultants and MWAA staff to resolve design conflicts and construction issues.

Required profile

• At least seven years of progressively responsible experience inspecting building, airport terminal, utility, civil and general construction projects.
• Knowledge of building‑trade regulations, OSHA safety rules and public‑sector construction contracts.
• Ability to perform complex data analysis, draft technical reports and communicate findings effectively.

Required skills

• Proficiency with project management systems such as Unifier, Procore or E‑Builder.
• Expert use of Bluebeam Revu for document and site management.
• Advanced office productivity software skills (document drafting, spreadsheets, calculations, presentations).
• OSHA 30‑hour Training certification (or obtain within one year of hire).
• Valid state driver’s license and ability to obtain an airside driving permit.
