Composites Engineer – Advanced Space Structures

About the role

Opterus is looking for a Composites Engineer (Level II/III) to drive the development and production of advanced composite components for deployable space structures. The role bridges engineering and manufacturing, ensuring designs become repeatable, flight‑ready hardware.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, document, and optimize composite manufacturing processes such as lay‑up, curing, bonding, trimming, and assembly.
• Design and fabricate mechanical tooling, GSE, and verification fixtures for composite structures.
• Interpret engineering requirements to create manufacturable designs, work instructions, and process specifications.
• Support prototype builds, first‑article manufacturing, and low‑rate production, providing hands‑on floor assistance.
• Identify and implement process improvements to enhance quality, efficiency, and repeatability.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Materials, Manufacturing Engineering or related field.
• 4+ years of experience in composite manufacturing or aerospace production environments.
• Ability to work cross‑functionally in a fast‑paced, development‑driven setting.

Required skills

• Composite materials and processes (prepreg, wet lay‑up, autoclave/oven cure, bonding).
• Understanding of composites theory (anisotropy, micromechanics).
• CAD design tools – SolidWorks preferred.
• Development of manufacturing documentation and process controls.

What we offer

• Base salary $90,000–$128,000 per year, dependent on experience.
