Community Service Work‑Study – Environmental Department

About the role

The City of Laredo Environmental Services Department is seeking a motivated work‑study student to support environmental education, storm‑water monitoring, and hazardous‑materials initiatives. This part‑time position offers hands‑on experience in municipal environmental programs while you continue your studies.

Key responsibilities

• Assist with community outreach and education campaigns to raise environmental awareness.
• Support the Storm Water Division by monitoring water quality, assisting with watershed projects, and reviewing permit documents.
• Help the Hazardous Materials Division maintain records, conduct inspections, and promote safe handling practices.
• Participate in clean‑up events, recycling drives, and environmental fairs.
• Conduct basic research on regulations and sustainability trends.
• Provide administrative support such as data entry, file organization, and report drafting.

Required profile

• Enrolled at least half‑time (6 credit hours for undergraduates, 3 for graduates) at Texas A&M International University.
• Maintain a GPA of 2.0 (undergraduate) or 3.0 (graduate) and meet Satisfactory Academic Progress requirements.
• Current FAFSA file with the Office of Financial Aid and demonstrated financial need.
• U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or holder of an alien registration number.
• Reliable transportation and ability to work evenings or weekends as needed.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Strong organizational abilities and capacity to manage multiple tasks.
