Environmental Specialist

About the role

Amentum is looking for an Environmental Specialist to plan, organize and coordinate all aspects of environmental programs, develop procedures and coordinate activities to solve pollution problems. The role involves research studies to develop theories or methods of abating or controlling sources of environmental pollutants.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare environmental research project feasibility and progress reports, and review technical aspects of projects to assess productivity.
• Coordinate research personnel through problem analysis, solution proposals and testing, and approve expenditures needed to complete projects.
• Confer with local regulatory agencies on environmental quality standards, industrial practices and new developments in pollution abatement, and give technical assistance to agencies running related studies.
• Determine data collection methods, plan and develop research models, and identify and analyze sources of pollution.
• Collect and synthesize data from pollution emissions, atmospheric monitoring, meteorological and mineralogical information, and soil or water samples, then prepare graphs, charts and statistical models.
• Analyze data to assess pollution problems, establish standards and develop approaches for pollution control.
• Apply knowledge of Federal and State environmental regulations and of Safety and Continuous Improvement Programs.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree (B.S.) from a four-year college or university with five years of related experience and/or training in Environmental Safety, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Knowledge of Federal and State environmental regulations and of Safety and Continuous Improvement Programs.
• Preferred: experience with EPCRA Tier II and the Toxic Release Inventory (TRI).
• Ability to read, analyze and interpret technical procedures and regulations, and to write reports, correspondence and procedure manuals.
• Ability to present information to managers, customers and the public, and to work with probability, statistics, geometry and trigonometry.
• Position may require passing and maintaining a security clearance.
