Communications & Outreach Specialist – Consumer Protection

About the role

The Communications & Outreach Specialist supports the Consumer Protection Division of the Georgia Department of Law. The role drives public education on consumer issues, manages digital and print communication assets, and ensures transparent interaction between the agency and the community.

Key responsibilities

• Present at public events statewide on consumer protection and fraud prevention.
• Develop education guides, brochures, and targeted publications such as the Older Adult Consumer Protection Guide and Cybersecurity Guide.
• Manage physical exhibits for community gatherings and informational forums.
• Draft public notifications, alerts, press releases, web articles, and social media posts.
• Maintain official web platforms, update articles, fix broken links, and audit the Division’s websites for ADA compliance.
• Monitor daily consumer complaint intake to identify emerging fraud trends.
• Participate in webinars, conference calls, and professional conferences to stay current on industry practices.
• Respond directly to consumer complaints and public inquiries, and support media relations as needed.

Required profile

• Experience managing internal and external communication strategies.
• Ability to create educational materials and public outreach content.
• Familiarity with web content management and ADA compliance requirements.
• Strong analytical skills to monitor complaint trends and identify fraud patterns.
• Effective public speaking and presentation abilities for statewide events.
