Communications & Media Relations Intern – Human Rights

About the role

The United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) is seeking a Communications and Media Relations Intern in New York. The internship supports the Office’s mission to promote and protect human rights worldwide through public information activities.

Key responsibilities

• Draft website articles and social‑media posts on current human‑rights topics.
• Research and analyse human‑rights issues to inform outreach efforts.
• Maintain and update media mailing lists and conduct media monitoring.
• Compile media clippings and prepare summaries of news coverage.
• Assist in preparing materials for press conferences and events, including Human Rights Day.
• Support the organisation of events and help with speech research.
• Perform other tasks as requested by the Public Information Officer.

Required profile

• Enrolled in the final year of a Bachelor’s programme or in a graduate programme (Master’s or Ph.D.) or have already completed such a degree.
• Field of study related to law, political science, international relations, social sciences or a comparable area.
• Fluency in written and spoken English; knowledge of French is an asset.
• No prior professional experience required.
