Chief of Cardiology Section – Full‑Time Academic Physician

About the role

Ochsner Health System and LSU Health Science Center‑Shreveport are seeking a full‑time Chief of the Section of Cardiology. This academic leader will guide education for medical students, residents, fellows and faculty while overseeing patient care on the Cardiology service and Coronary Care Unit.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the cardiology group, advising on faculty and staff hiring and overall operations.
• Promote clinical productivity, manage schedules, and ensure coverage across all clinical areas.
• Develop and monitor business plans, financial reports and budget requests for the department.
• Implement quality metrics, supervise educational meetings and maintain office hour availability.
• Provide consultative and procedural cardiac care, including oversight of the Coronary Care Unit.

Required profile

• Medical Doctor (M.D.) eligible for Louisiana medical licensure.
• Board‑Certified or Board‑Eligible in Cardiology.
• Demonstrated experience in cardiology clinical practice and academic environments.
• Excellent communication skills for interaction with learners, faculty, healthcare teams and community partners.

• Interpretation of electrocardiograms (EKG).
• Interpretation of echocardiograms.
• Interpretation of stress tests.
• Performance of cardiac catheterization procedures.
• Management of acute and chronic cardiac illnesses.
