Cardiothoracic Surgery Physician Assistant

About the role

This non‑surgical 13‑hour shift position provides coverage for the 11‑bed cardiothoracic surgery ICU (Open Heart Unit) at Lehigh Valley Health Network. The role rotates on a 2‑weeks days/2‑weeks nights schedule with two weekends per month, working closely with attending cardiothoracic surgeons and other providers.

Key responsibilities

• Manage post‑cardiac and thoracic surgery patients, including ECMO and LVAD care.
• Perform bedside procedures and place invasive monitoring lines such as central venous catheters, dialysis lines, and arterial lines.
• Conduct initial evaluations, histories, and physical examinations for assigned patients.
• Participate in education, quality improvement, and research projects.
• Contribute to service‑related databases and educate patients and families during inpatient stays.

Required profile

• Board‑eligible or board‑certified Physician Assistant.
• Valid Pennsylvania medical license or ability to obtain one.
• Graduate of an accredited PA program.
• ICU experience with sufficient rotation exposure.
