Camera Optomechanical Engineer

About the role

Saronic Technologies is seeking a Camera Optomechanical Engineer to lead the design, integration, and qualification of imaging systems for its Autonomous Service Vessels. The role blends optics, mechanics, and environmental engineering to deliver rugged camera solutions that operate reliably in harsh maritime conditions.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop optomechanical assemblies, including lens mounts, enclosures, gimbals, and thermal control elements.
• Collaborate with hardware, perception, and autonomy teams to define mechanical and optical requirements such as field of view, lensing, placement, and alignment.
• Perform tolerance analysis and ensure structural integrity under vibration and shock.
• Select and integrate COTS and custom components while meeting size, weight, and power (SWaP) constraints.
• Create and execute test plans for IP rating, vibration, temperature cycling, and overall performance validation.
• Support rapid prototyping using 3D printing, machining, and on‑water testing.
• Maintain comprehensive documentation of designs, analyses, and revisions for lifecycle and compliance.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Optical Engineering, or a related field.
• At least 2 years of experience designing optomechanical or camera integration systems for rugged environments.
• Experience with autonomous or robotics platforms is preferred.
• Background in defense, aerospace, or regulated hardware environments is a plus.

Required skills

• Proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks, Creo).
• Mechanical analysis tools (FEA, thermal modeling).
• Production‑ready engineering drawing creation.
• Understanding of optical principles (alignment, lens selection, MTF, FOV).
• Environmental sealing techniques (IP67+), thermal management, and vibration isolation.
• Knowledge of camera sensor technologies (visible, IR, multispectral) and related mechanical considerations.
