About the role

The Building Inspector conducts comprehensive inspections of residential and commercial structures to verify compliance with building codes, regulations, and approved plans. The role involves field inspections, report preparation, stakeholder interaction, and support for business‑development initiatives across a large coverage area.

Key responsibilities

• Inspect residential and commercial buildings, including structural, plumbing, mechanical, and electrical systems, for code compliance.
• Research, interpret, and explain building codes, ordinances, and related statutes to the public and contractors.
• Produce detailed inspection reports, issue correction notices, and maintain accurate records with photographic evidence.
• Provide professional assistance to homeowners, contractors, and permit‑issuing authorities while maintaining effective relationships.
• Lead or support inspection‑related projects, ensuring timelines, quality standards, and budget constraints are met.

Required profile

• Associate degree in Engineering, Architecture, Building Inspection, or related field (preferred) or high school diploma/GED with 2+ years relevant experience.
• Minimum 2 years of journey‑level experience in municipal inspection services, construction trades, or general contracting.
• ICC certification (mandatory) and TSBPE Plumbing Inspector license; valid Texas driver’s license required.

Required skills

• Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Adobe Acrobat, and Adobe Photoshop.
• Digital imaging skills, including use of digital cameras and photo‑editing software.
