Biologics Process R&D Senior Scientist

About the role

Our Research Scientists are inventors who use innovative thinking, state‑of‑the‑art facilities and rigorous scientific methodology to deliver the next medical breakthrough. The Biologics Process Research & Development (BPR&D) team rapidly delivers diverse biotherapeutics by developing robust manufacturing processes and technologies. This position supports the Process Development group, focusing on upstream and/or downstream bioprocessing.

Key responsibilities

• Develop innovative, disruptive technologies for next‑generation biologic manufacturing.
• Design and conduct lab or pilot‑scale studies to support scale‑up and transfer of processes.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to advance pipelines from early to late‑stage development.
• Train and mentor junior scientists in experimental design and data interpretation.
• Contribute to a safe and compliant laboratory environment.

Required profile

• B.S. with 4 years, M.S. with 3 years, or PhD (or expected PhD by June 2027) in chemical/biochemical engineering, biotechnology, biochemistry, biology, microbiology or related fields.
• Proven ability to design and execute hands‑on lab and/or in‑silico experiments.
• Proficiency with statistical design and analysis tools.
• Excellent communication and ability to work in matrixed, cross‑functional teams.
• Experience in upstream and/or downstream bioprocessing.

Required skills

• Recombinant protein expression and cell‑culture techniques.
• Bioreactor operation, mass‑transfer kinetics, and process scale‑up.
• Chromatography, filtration, crystallization, precipitation, adsorption and mixing unit operations.
• Statistical experimental design, data analysis and modeling.
• Programming languages for data science, machine learning and AI.
• High‑throughput automation platforms and feed/media development.
• Quality by Design, process characterization and control‑strategy development.

What we offer

• Salary range $117,000 – $184,200 per year.
