Bilingual Virtual Medical Assistant (Spanish/English) - Pulmonology

About the role

A U.S.-based pulmonary specialty practice with three clinic locations is looking for an experienced bilingual Virtual Medical Assistant (Spanish/English) to work remotely, Monday to Friday in U.S. Central Time, about 30 hours per week at $7 per hour. The role provides patient support in both languages, handles inbound and outbound calls, coordinates patient communications and helps with clinical administrative tasks.

Key responsibilities

• Answer patient calls in English and Spanish, handle general inquiries, confirm appointments and route messages; help Spanish-speaking patients with transferred calls or outbound follow-ups.
• Manage patient messages, staff queues and administrative workflows in the EMR system, coordinate referrals and communicate with referring providers.
• Assist with specialist appointment scheduling, process medical records requests and support insurance verification and prior authorization workflows as assigned.
• Work with clinic supervisors, medical staff, Billing and Chronic Care Management, and with other VMAs to manage call volume and follow-ups.
• Help document and improve standard operating procedures.

Required profile

• Minimum of 1 year of experience as a Virtual Medical Assistant supporting U.S.-based healthcare practices.
• Bilingual proficiency in Spanish and English, with active HIPAA certification or willingness to complete it before the first day.
• Ability to work independently, multitask and collaborate with a remote healthcare team.

Required skills

• Hands-on experience with patient calls, appointment scheduling, EMR documentation and clinical administrative workflows.
• Preferred: AthenaHealth EMR experience, background in pulmonology or other specialty outpatient practices, and experience with insurance verification, prior authorizations and referral coordination.
• Technical requirements: computer or laptop with at least an Intel Core i5 processor, reliable high-speed internet, a dedicated backup connection and a UPS or reliable backup power source.
