Automation Engineer 1

About the role

Techtronic Industries (TTI) is a global leader in power tools, accessories, hand tools, outdoor power equipment and floor care, with its Anderson site carrying the RYOBI and HART brands. The Automation Engineer 1 supports Product Development and Engineering within the Test Automation Group (TAG) by designing and building test systems and automating product testing. The engineer regularly designs mechanical mechanisms, generates mechanical assemblies in CAD, programs PLCs and robots, wires and debugs.

Key responsibilities

• Design, assemble and modify automated machinery and electrical control systems to automate testing processes, with guidance.
• Develop and debug automation programs (PLC, HMI, robotics) with guidance.
• Manage projects: report progress, coordinate with other engineers for design intent and cost effectiveness, and write technical manuals, drawings, models, training documentation and troubleshooting guides.
• Work in a team, support colleagues' workloads and collaborate across functions.

Required profile

• Minimum bachelor's degree (preferred) in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Automation or a similar field.
• 0-3 years of relevant experience.
• Ability to travel 5%.
• Physical ability to sit about half the time, lift 50 pounds occasionally, type, stand and walk frequently, and bend occasionally.

Required skills

• Mechanical: 3D CAD (SolidWorks or NX preferred), basic machining skills, hands-on problem solving.
• Electrical: circuits and electronics, AC vs DC power electronics, sensors and actuators, lab equipment such as multimeters, power supplies and data acquisition systems.
• Software: PLC, HMI and robotics programming; LabVIEW, Allen-Bradley and/or Mitsubishi PLCs, and HMI programming preferred; Ignition or other SCADA preferred.
• Generative AI tools (GitHub Copilot, Microsoft Copilot, Copilot Studio) and machine learning concepts preferred.
