Associate Director, Communications

About the role

The Communications Associate Director will lead strategic communications initiatives that elevate the Los Angeles Lakers brand and support organizational priorities. This senior role serves as the primary liaison to media worldwide, shaping the team’s public narrative through proactive storytelling and executive communications.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, coordinate and execute media availabilities, press conferences and special media events for executives, players and organizational announcements.
• Build and maintain relationships with local, national and international media and broadcast partners, pitching stories and securing coverage.
• Write and edit press releases, media guides and other materials in AP style, delivering accurate information under tight deadlines.
• Partner with marketing, social, content, creative, broadcast, partnerships and community teams to create integrated communications strategies.
• Develop executive talking points and messaging that reinforce organizational values and objectives.
• Oversee media monitoring, reporting and analysis of coverage and public sentiment.
• Manage pre‑game and post‑game locker‑room and podium media access, ensuring compliance with NBA media regulations.

Required profile

• Proven experience in strategic communications, media relations and executive communications.
• Demonstrated ability to lead cross‑functional teams and collaborate across internal departments.
• Strong storytelling skills with a track record of securing high‑quality media coverage.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with meticulous attention to detail.
