Assistant/Associate Professor – Food Animal Veterinarian

About the role

The University of Maryland Eastern Shore School of Veterinary Medicine seeks a tenure‑track Assistant or Associate Professor in Food Animal Veterinary Medicine. This twelve‑month position balances research, extension, service, and teaching, focusing on applied solutions for livestock and poultry producers.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and lead an extramurally funded, producer‑engaged research program.
• Provide extension and outreach services to producers, private‑practice veterinarians, industry partners, and rural communities.
• Teach veterinary and graduate courses and mentor students.
• Collaborate with the Dean of SVM, the Director of UMES Agricultural Experiment Station, and the Administrator of UMES Extension.
• Contribute to the School’s One Health mission and regional agricultural economy.

Required profile

• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree with a focus on food‑animal health.
• Demonstrated ability to secure external research funding.
• Experience in extension, outreach, or applied research with livestock/poultry producers.
• Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in academia.

Required skills

• Expertise in animal health science and veterinary practice.
• Strong communication skills for producer and stakeholder engagement.
• Ability to develop and manage research projects.
