Assistant Store Manager (Training Program)

About the role

The Home Depot is hiring a Merchandising Assistant Store Manager in Training (MASM-IT) for its Lemon Grove store. This is a training position of up to 6 weeks, designed to give hands-on experience in the key responsibilities of a Specialty Assistant Store Manager, with mentorship and leadership development. Trainees learn the Manager on Duty duties and how to oversee the Merchandising departments (Garden, Hardware, Lumber, Building Materials, Plumbing and Electrical) so that customer service, product availability and store presentation succeed.

Key responsibilities

• Customer experience: supervise associates in the selling effort, drive customer service and engagement, and resolve customer concerns promptly.
• Operations management: run opening and closing procedures, follow company policies and hold associates accountable, and know store SOPs, especially safety compliance, to reduce shrink.
• Safety: make sure self and associates follow safety and hazmat procedures and Safety Matters guidelines.
• Sales and productivity: help plan merchandise placement and signing, support stock integrity through inventory management, and learn to operate store equipment and systems and manage daily financial operations.
• Training and preparation for the Assistant Manager position: complete a structured program covering operations, customer service, sales and profitability, staffing and scheduling, stock deficiencies, performance reviews and the disciplinary process, and finish all assigned training modules and assessments.

Required profile

• Able to work in the United States and at least 18 years old.
• High school diploma or GED; preferred: bachelor's degree or equivalent in a related field.
• Preferred: 3 years of work experience and 3 years of leadership experience.
• Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
• Physical requirements: continuous standing or walking, and regularly lifting or carrying material of moderate weight (8-20 pounds); occasional unpleasant conditions.
• Typical overnight travel under 5% of the time; reports to the Store Manager with no direct reports.
