Assistant Professor of Sociology (Tenure‑Track)

About the role

The Department of Sociology and Communication at Texas A&M University–San Antonio seeks a full‑time, tenure‑track Assistant Professor of Sociology to begin in Fall 2027. The position emphasizes undergraduate teaching, quantitative research, and student mentorship.

Key responsibilities

• Teach six undergraduate courses per academic year (standard 3/3 load), including research methods, statistics, and specialty courses.
• Integrate an active research agenda into classroom instruction and develop Course‑based Undergraduate Research Experiences (CUREs).
• Mentor undergraduate students in research projects and guide them toward professional development.
• Participate in departmental service, curriculum development, and community‑engaged initiatives.
• Potentially teach summer courses and manage one‑course reassignment in the first year and during the probationary period.

Required profile

• Demonstrated promise in quantitative sociological research with a trajectory toward high‑quality publications.
• Experience or strong interest in teaching and mentoring at Hispanic‑Serving Institutions or with majority‑Latinx student populations.
• Interdisciplinary orientation and commitment to student‑centered learning and community engagement.
• Ability to link sociological knowledge to workforce preparation and career readiness.
