Application Engineer – Electrical Solutions

About the role

As an Application Engineer/Technologist at 3M, you will work with global teams to design and deliver custom medium‑voltage solutions for customers. The role blends technical expertise, customer interaction, and cross‑functional collaboration to turn electrical requirements into reliable field applications.

Key responsibilities

• Lead technical discussions with customers to capture electrical requirements, timing, and delivery expectations.
• Communicate custom kit specifications and application details through documentation, verbal briefings, and field training.
• Evaluate one‑line drawings and cable schedules to select appropriate medium‑voltage solutions that meet industry standards.
• Develop Bills of Materials for custom kits and coordinate with manufacturing, service, and sales teams to ensure timely supply.
• Collaborate with supporting functions to plan, execute, and manage projects in line with customer expectations.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or higher, preferably in Electrical Engineering, Physical Sciences, or a related discipline.
• At least two years of combined experience as a Field Engineer, Design Engineer, Estimator, Project Manager, or Superintendent on large capital projects.
• Knowledge of medium‑voltage cable, splices, terminations, and related hardware.
• Familiarity with integrated systems that may include hardware, firmware, software, and communications protocols.
• Understanding of medium‑voltage equipment such as switchgear, transformers, and motors and their field connections.
• Proficiency with MS Office, CAD tools, and construction‑drawing file formats.
• Demonstrated success working on cross‑functional teams and interpreting electrical specifications and drawings.
