AI Product Manager – Autonomous Underwriting

About the role

Shepherd is building a fully autonomous underwriting platform called Nova. As the first product hire, you will own the roadmap, execution and vision for this AI‑driven product, shaping the future of commercial risk insurance.

Key responsibilities

• Own the product end‑to‑end: vision, discovery, prioritisation, execution and UX/design decisions.
• Deeply understand underwriters, translate pain points into requirements and edge‑case coverage.
• Define correctness metrics, materiality thresholds and regression criteria for releases.
• Set autonomy standards, design escalation paths and trust signals for the system.
• Collaborate with engineering: write prompts, analyse evaluation data, prototype with AI coding agents and contribute code when needed.

Required profile

• 4+ years of product experience leading technically complex products.
• Hands‑on technical ability: can read PRs, discuss architecture, write SQL and understand model behaviour.
• Experience shipping AI‑powered systems to production.
• Statistical literacy: comfortable with distributions, thresholds and metric validation.
• Deep interest in construction risk domain and willingness to learn industry specifics.
