Academic After‑School Tutor – Chicago

About the role

Proximity Learning offers free after‑school programs for at‑risk students in Chicago. We are looking for an enthusiastic, reliable, and patient tutor to support middle‑school and high‑school students in building academic skills and good study habits.

Key responsibilities

• Provide homework assistance, check work, and tutor subjects such as math, grammar, and reading.
• Assist students with test preparation.
• Teach using the LinkIt, Moby Max, and Edmentum Apex Learning platforms (training provided).
• Deliver enrichment activities that enhance knowledge and academic skills.
• Supervise and manage student groups as an authority figure.

Required profile

• Passionate about children, enthusiastic, reliable, respectful, and patient.
• Ability to multitask, show initiative, and communicate effectively in writing and speaking.
• Fluent in English (written and spoken).
• At least 20 years old with a high school diploma or equivalent (preferably two years of higher‑education study).
• Minimum one year of experience in youth camp, early childhood education, college tutoring, teaching assistance, coaching, mentoring, or similar roles.
• COVID‑19 vaccination and ability to pass a national criminal background check.
• Reliable commute to Chicago, IL 60624 or willingness to relocate.

What we offer

• Part‑time schedule: 4‑hour after‑school shifts, Monday‑Thursday.
• Compensation at $30 per hour.
