Tenure-Track Assistant Professor – Microbiology

About the role

The Department of Biology at a research university in Las Cruces seeks a tenure‑track Assistant Professor to develop a robust research program and teach undergraduate and graduate courses in microbiology and related fields.

Key responsibilities

• Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in microbiology, host‑microbe interactions, and related subjects.
• Establish an independent, externally funded research program focused on symbiotic or pathogenic microbes and animal hosts.
• Mentor undergraduate and graduate students in research projects.
• Contribute to departmental service, including committee work, advising majors, and curriculum development.
• Participate in externally funded student training programs and leverage research facilities such as the Jornada Basin LTER site.

Required profile

• PhD in Biology or a related life‑science discipline.
• At least one year of post‑doctoral research experience or equivalent.
• Evidence of research productivity appropriate to the career stage.
• Desirable teaching experience in microbiology or related areas.

Required skills

• Expertise in microbiology and host‑microbe interaction studies.
• Experience with mammalian model systems.
