Solution Design Controls Engineer

About the role

Dematic is seeking a Solution Design Controls Engineer to join its Customer Service Solution Development team. The role focuses on estimating and designing control solutions for material handling systems across a portfolio of customers in the United States.

Key responsibilities

• Design and estimate control solutions that integrate electrical hardware, PLC programming, and software for material handling systems.
• Interpret schematics and PLC programs, specify materials, and follow up on technical details.
• Provide recommendations to improve productivity, reduce costs, and enhance customer satisfaction.
• Conduct technical interchange and knowledge transfer for product application and system design.
• Identify and resolve semi‑complex problems, offering guidance and training to professional staff.
• Travel up to 20% to customer and Dematic locations across the United States.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
• 5+ years of experience in controls engineering and material handling.
• Proven experience designing and commissioning automated material handling systems, including electrical design, PLC, HMI, and drives.
• Experience estimating project hours, resources, and costs.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills and ability to manage multiple opportunities and deadlines.

Required skills

• Rockwell Automation PLC programming (RSLogix software).
• Understanding of serial and Ethernet communications and protocols.
• PLC hardware and VFD upgrades.
• Experience with Dematic Flexsort and industrial networking.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
