Software Engineer – Linux Kernel & Android

About the role

Rivet is building integrated task systems for industrial and defense personnel. As a Software Engineer focused on Linux Kernel and Android, you will develop and maintain the low‑level platform stack that powers body‑worn and field‑deployed devices, including AR/XR soldier systems.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain system‑level software across Android and Linux, focusing on kernel, BSP, AOSP, HALs, and device drivers.
• Customize and integrate AOSP for custom hardware platforms, including camera and display HAL components.
• Bring up new hardware and peripherals, collaborating with electrical and hardware engineers to debug cross‑stack issues.
• Configure, build, and maintain Linux kernels and Android system images for power‑ and thermally‑constrained devices.
• Own secure and reliable platform architecture, including secure boot and system integrity mechanisms.

Required profile

• 3+ years of experience developing system‑level software for Android and/or Linux‑based devices.
• Strong C/C++ programming skills and experience with low‑level debugging tools.
• Ability to work collaboratively with software, electrical, mechanical, and systems engineers.
• Eligibility to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance if required.

Required skills

• Linux kernel development, configuration, and debugging.
• Android/AOSP platform customization, HALs, and system services.
• Device driver development and integration with custom peripherals.
• Board bring‑up, device trees, bootloaders (U‑Boot, Android Bootloader).
• Embedded build environments (Yocto, Buildroot, Bazel, Soong).
• Hardware interfaces and protocols: USB, MIPI, I2C, UART, GPIO, PCIe.
• Secure boot, TPM, verified boot, and platform hardening.
