Software Development Engineer – Graph Database

About the role

Amazon Neptune is a fully‑managed graph database service that powers highly connected applications such as recommendation engines, fraud detection, and knowledge graphs. We are looking for a Software Development Engineer to design and implement core algorithms and features that ensure the service’s high availability, reliability and performance for AWS customers.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and optimise new algorithms and system components that drive Neptune’s scalability and low‑latency query processing.
• Participate in design reviews, code reviews and cross‑team discussions to shape the architecture of the database engine.
• Implement metrics, automation and debugging tools to monitor and improve service health.
• Collaborate with product, operations and other engineering teams to deliver high‑impact solutions.
• Investigate and resolve root causes of software defects and performance issues.

Required profile

• Strong experience in software development, preferably with large‑scale distributed systems.
• Self‑motivated and able to work independently in a fast‑paced, startup‑like environment.
• Passion for solving complex database problems.

Required skills

• Proficiency in C++ or a comparable systems programming language.
• Solid understanding of algorithms, data structures and software architecture.
• Experience with graph databases and query languages such as Apache TinkerPop Gremlin.
• Familiarity with AWS services and cloud‑native development.
