Software Development Engineer, AWS IAM Distributed Database System

About the role

Amazon Web Services (AWS) Identity team is seeking a Software Development Engineer to design and build the next generation of IAM distributed database systems. You will work on highly available, fault‑tolerant services that enable customers to manage authentication and authorization at massive scale.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement, and operate low‑latency, high‑throughput distributed components for AWS IAM.
• Build APIs that simplify access‑control management for AWS customers.
• Ensure operational sustainability by eliminating flaky tests and improving system reliability.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to deliver scalable, multi‑tenant solutions.
• Participate in on‑call rotations and root‑cause analysis for production incidents.

Required profile

• 3+ years of professional software development experience.
• 2+ years of experience designing or architecting reliable, scalable systems.
• Strong customer focus and ability to balance performance with operational simplicity.
• Willingness to learn new programming languages and technologies.

Required skills

• Proficiency in at least one programming language (e.g., Java, C++, Python).
• Experience with AWS services and IAM concepts.
• Knowledge of distributed systems, micro‑services, and fault‑tolerant design.
• Familiarity with API design and low‑latency request processing.
