Senior Transportation Planner

About the role

We are looking for a Senior Transportation Planner to lead and support active‑transportation, trail, and multimodal projects across Utah and the Intermountain West. The role blends technical analysis with high‑level planning, focusing on improving mobility, connectivity, and quality of life through shared‑use paths, bike lanes, and complete streets.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the planning and development of active‑transportation facilities such as shared‑use paths, trails, bike lanes, and complete streets.
• Manage corridor studies, concept studies, feasibility studies, and NEPA/PEL‑related planning efforts.
• Prepare and review technical memoranda, reports, and planning documents for transportation and trail projects.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary teams including traffic, drainage, roadway, structures, utilities, and right‑of‑way.
• Oversee project scope, schedule, budget, and quality control.
• Analyze transportation, land‑use, and mobility data to inform recommendations.
• Facilitate public and stakeholder engagement through meetings, workshops, and presentations.
• Mentor junior staff and contribute to a collaborative team environment.
• Support business development and client relationship activities as needed.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Urban Planning, Transportation Planning, Civil Engineering or a related field.
• 15+ years of experience in transportation planning and multimodal project development.
• Proven experience managing active‑transportation, trail, or multimodal projects.
• Strong understanding of national and local guidelines for bicycle and pedestrian facilities.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience presenting to clients, stakeholders, and the public.
