People Operations Lead

About the role

Cognition is an applied AI lab building end‑to‑end software agents, including Devin, the first AI software engineer. The company is scaling rapidly and needs a senior HR professional to design and run the core People Operations engine that will support its fast growth.

Key responsibilities

• Own and evolve People systems and operational infrastructure, ensuring HR technology, data, workflows, and integrations are accurate, scalable, and effective.
• Design scalable People Operations processes, including tracking, playbooks, checklists, documentation, and clear ownership.
• Lead benefits operations and administration, partnering with brokers, vendors, payroll, finance, and employees for a high‑quality benefits experience in the US and emerging international programs.
• Build and manage compliance infrastructure, translating multi‑state and international employment requirements into practical processes and controls.
• Develop and maintain employee policies and the handbook, balancing compliance with Cognition’s culture.
• Provide an operational lens to business decisions, surfacing risks, dependencies, and trade‑offs, and guiding leaders through complex People situations.
• Partner closely with payroll, finance, legal, IT, recruiting, and external vendors to ensure seamless execution of People programs.
• Use data and operational insights to identify issues, improve programs, and build proactive reporting, controls, and processes.
• Participate in high‑priority People and business projects as needed, adapting the role’s scope as the company evolves.
