Part-Time Lecturer AY - College of Science (SCI Courses)

About the role

The College of Science at Cal Poly Pomona invites applications for part-time lecturer positions to teach college-level SCI courses, including the First-Year Experience sequence. The position is in the temporary faculty pool, open to qualified instructors across the natural, physical, life and mathematical sciences, and is not tied to a single department. Positions are filled as needed, based on student enrollment and funding, and candidates may need to be available to start teaching on short notice.

Key responsibilities

• Teach assigned First-Year Experience courses (SCI 1010 / SCI 1010A and SCI 1020A) and other interdisciplinary, college-level SCI courses covering scientific reasoning, quantitative and data literacy, scientific communication and student success.
• Teach the assigned curriculum and hold weekly office hours according to the assigned teaching unit load; assignments may include day, evening and/or weekend courses.
• Foster an inclusive, student-centered learning environment and contribute to the goals of the First-Year Experience learning community where assigned.
• Collaborate with college faculty and staff on course coordination and student success.

Required profile

• A Master's degree in a science, mathematics, education or closely related field.
• Demonstrated ability to teach effectively at the college or university level and to support a diverse student population.
• Preferred: a Ph.D. in a science discipline, prior university-level teaching experience with evidence of strong teaching, experience teaching first-year or general education science courses, and a demonstrated commitment to inclusive, equity-minded teaching and mentoring.

What we offer

• Initial appointments are for one semester only; the full-time monthly base salary is prorated to the number of units worked and paid in six monthly payments.
• Anticipated hiring range up to $6,221 per month, depending on qualifications.
