Assistant Professor of Sociology (Social Work Focus)

About the role

Cal Poly Pomona, in the Department of Sociology within the College of Letters, Arts and Social Sciences, is seeking a tenure-track Assistant Professor to teach courses in social work, with a particular interest in candidates whose teaching, research and practice focus on micro-level social work. Antiracist and anti-oppressive perspectives are welcomed as additional foci. The position is full time, on site in Pomona, and falls under Unit 3 of the California Faculty Association.

Key responsibilities

• Teach the equivalent of four courses per semester; junior faculty receive one course release each semester for the first two years.
• Contribute to the development of the Sociology Department's BSW degree and the growth of the social work program.
• Provide excellence in teaching, advising, professional and scholarly achievement, and serve the department, university and community.
• Demonstrate sensitivity to diversity, including race, ethnicity, gender, class, age, religion, disability and sexuality.

Required profile

• Ph.D. in Social Work, Sociology or a related social science field from an accredited university, completed by the start of the appointment.
• Master's in Social Work (MSW) from a CSWE-accredited university.
• University teaching experience as instructor of record and/or teaching assistant.
• Three references with names and contact information.
• Preferred: evidence of teaching excellence, an active scholarly agenda, ability to advise and mentor undergraduates, curriculum or program development experience, and 2 years of practice after the MSW.
