Assistant Professor of Clinical/Counseling Psychology (Tenure-Track)

About the role

Cal Poly Pomona, in the Department of Psychology within the College of Letters, Arts, and Social Sciences, is seeking a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Clinical/Counseling Psychology. The position calls for particular expertise in child, family or couples therapy. The work is primarily done on campus, with some flexibility for remote days.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and teach undergraduate and graduate courses, including in the clinical MS program that prepares students for licensure as Marriage and Family Therapists (e.g., abnormal psychology, theories of counseling, basic counseling skills, treatment of children/families/couples, research methods in psychology).
• Advise students on career and academic matters and supervise student research.
• Establish a line of research through publication and presentation of work.
• Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum, administration and human resources at department, college and university levels.

Required profile

• PhD in Clinical Psychology, Counseling Psychology, School Psychology, Marriage and Family Therapy or a closely related field by the time of appointment.
• CA licensed or license-eligible as a psychologist, MFT or LPCC.
• Graduate-level coursework or research qualifying you to teach undergraduate courses in clinical/counseling psychology, graduate courses in the treatment of children/families/couples, and courses on research methods in psychology.
• One class taught as instructor of record at undergraduate or graduate level, or as a teaching assistant with an instructional role.
• Program of research relevant to clinical/counseling psychology or to pedagogy.
• English proficiency.

Preferred: additional experience teaching as instructor of record, an active research program with student involvement, and successful teamwork experience. The position is covered by the California Faculty Association collective bargaining agreement.
